Why I built CrisisBrief

When a crisis breaks, the open-source picture is everywhere and nowhere at once: hundreds of reports across a dozen languages, half of them contradicting the other half, and almost none of them telling you how much to trust what you’re reading.

I study global affairs at Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service, where forming a defensible view on a fast-moving crisis meant hours of manual triage across sources I half-trusted. And even then, I couldn’t show my work.

CrisisBrief is the tool I wanted. It reads across sources and languages, grades each one on the Admiralty Code, and writes a brief where every claim carries its own confidence and its citation. Nothing is asserted that can’t be traced back to where it came from.

It isn’t here to tell you what to think. It’s here to give you a source-grounded starting point in minutes instead of hours, and to stay honest about what the evidence does and doesn’t support.

Two bylines appear on CrisisBrief. CrisisBrief Desk is the model. It writes the daily briefings, the analysis pieces, the investigations and the reference profiles, from sources it has collected, graded on the Admiralty Code and cited claim by claim. No person edits those pages before they publish. The byline says AI-generated because it is.

Faris McDowall-Rose is the byline on the fortnightly brief. That piece is also drafted by the model, in Faris’s own register, from the two weeks of published holdings behind it, and it publishes on a fixed schedule. Faris sets the method, the sourcing standard and the voice; he does not write each one by hand, and the page says so.

Every claim on either byline traces to a cited source with a reliability grade. Where the evidence is thin, the text says so rather than filling the gap.
